Our Vision
By Bill Athey, Scoutmaster

The basic fundamental mission of our troop is:
To serve others by instilling values in young people and preparing them to make ethical and moral choices during their lifetime while achieving their full potential. The values we strive to instill are based on those found in the Scout Oath, Law and the Golden Rule.

The aim of our troop is to develop:

  • Character with Integrity
  • Citizenship and Patriotism
  • Personal Fitness (Physical, Mental, and Spiritual)

Goals and Objectives

  • The most important part of our plan is to provide the best possible Boy Scout program backed with a selection of leaders who stand firm in making ethical and moral decisions which represent the values of Boy Scouts of America and our sponsoring organization (KUMC).  Unit leaders play a vital role in shaping the lives of youth and must serve as the best possible role models for youth whether on scout outings or away from scouts in their personal lives.  It is important that leaders show respect for authority and follow the chain of command.

Characteristics Sought in our Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters

The following characteristics, in descending order, and as defined by BSA as being important to the success of a Troop:

  • High moral standards
  • Ability to relate to young people and be a role model
  • Ability to work with parents and members of the chartered organization
  • Ability to delegate tasks and organize groups

    • Safe fun with a purpose; following, The Guide to Safe Scouting. • Scouting should not be about blindly earning rank but achievement is the tool to best fulfill our mission.
    • Boy Scout led, Boy Scout run. • Weekly troop meetings integrated with the monthly program feature.
    • Trained adult and Boy Scout youth leaders. • A 4-year strategic plan geared toward retaining Scouts by improving the quality of the troop.
    • Encourage a love for learning. • Ability and goal to achieve First Class rank within 1 year.
    • Active parental involvement. • Achievement of Eagle Scout rank for every dedicated scout.
    • Financial health and accountability • Build effective relationships with Pack Leaders and Webelos.
